Decatur First Baptist Church is excited to be “walking with Jesus”
as two-thirds of their attending congregation have signed up to
participate in a Bible reading plan. Each person who has signed up
has received a booklet containing the chapters to be read. The
instructions encourage them to read, meditate, pray, and write down
on a calendar one thing that they discovered about
Jesus
in the day’s reading. They are also being encouraged to write down
some way they will change or something they will do in response to
what they have learned while “walking with Jesus” in that day’s
reading.
One-third of those who signed up for the Bible reading plan have
enlisted in a “Prayer and Share Partnership.” During the two months
of the Bible reading plan, they have been given a prayer and share
partner and they agree to (1) pray daily for their
|
partner during the course of the reading plan; and (2) once each
week, share with their prayer and share partner one thing that
impressed them about Jesus during the readings of the previous week.
Whitney West, pastor of First Baptist, says, “It has been such a
blessing, after the first month, to actually hear people
interjecting questions, thoughts and discussion into our meetings at
times that come from their reading. We also had one person who does
not attend, but is involved in our women’s Bible study, engage as a
partner with one of our members to participate in the reading.”
First
Baptist has entered into covenant with the Region to engaged in
spiritual, missional, and leadership practices for the remainder of
2008 and on into 2009.
