Our Mission

The Church Leadership Institute shall assist the churches of the American Baptist Churches of Greater Indianapolis and Indiana-Kentucky to identify, educate, and encourage laypersons as they respond to God’s call into new areas of ministerial leadership.

Certificate of Christian Leadership
Students in CLI can pursue the Certificate of Christian Leadership, a two-year program that focuses on introducing the student to the classical core that comprises many seminary curricula. Practical instruction in leadership and teaching skills are also included in the Certificate’s course of study. Note: It is highly recommended (but not required) that the Certificate student engage in a mentoring relationship with his or her pastor or a respected layperson.

Diploma of Pastoral Studies
The Diploma of Pastoral Studies is the third-year track of the program and is geared for the student who has sensed God’s call to explore even deeper, through seminary study, pursuing bi-vocational pastoral ministry and/or seeking in-church ordination. The Diploma courses focus on introducing the student to some practical areas of pastoral ministry. This practical emphasis is further enhanced if the Diploma student continues to engage in a mentoring relationship with his or her pastor or a respected layperson.
